Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued an interim order to immediately provide a second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to senior citizens aged above 65.

A bench of Justice Ishwor Khatiwada issued the order in the name of the government while hearing a writ petition filed by two senior citizens arguing that they should be vaccinated against the pandemic.

Two senior citizens—Arjun Raj Giri, 75, of Kavre and Purna Prasad Poudel, 65, of Surkhet—had filed the writ petition at the apex court on Monday.

A total of 1.3 million senior citizens who had received the first dose have been deprived of the second dose due to the government’s failure to bring procured vaccines.
