Kathmandu: Nepal will be receiving one million Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines under the COVAX facility within one month.

Initially, it was said that 650,000 doses of vaccine would be provided under COVAX. But the number was later increased to one million doses, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

The vaccines are expected to arrive within a month.

While, other vaccines should be administered in two doses, Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines are one-dose vaccines and also work well against delta variant. Earlier, the government had tried to procure vaccines directly from the manufacturer.

Nepal has so far received 348,000 Covishield vaccines produced by the Serum Institute of India under the COVAX facility. COVAX facility has committed to providing doses enough to vaccinate 20 percent of the population.

Earlier on Friday, the Health Ministry had said that the government has reached an agreement with the Beijing-based Sinopharm Company to purchase its Vero Cell vaccines. The first consignment of the vaccine will arrive in Nepal on July 8.
