Kathmandu: Police have arrested four Chinese nationals from Thamel in Kathmandu on the charge of illegally trading wildlife parts and gambling.
Acting on a special tip-off, a joint team of police from the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range and Metropolitan Police Circle, Lainchaur arrested the Chinese nationals and confiscated Rs 889,144 in cash and several wildlife parts.
Those arrested have been identified as 31-year-old Zhao Penucheng , 34-year-old Ma Jingbin , 31-year-old Niu Yuliang , and 28-year-old Peng Hui.
In a crackdown against illegal wildlife trading and gambling, the joint team raided hotel Jianghu Khajan at Kathmandu Metropolitan City-17 operated by a Chinese national Wenlong Shi at 10:30 pm on Monday, according to Kathmandu Police.
During the crackdown, police confiscated a smartphone, a tiger hide, two electric tables for gambling, tiger skin-like material, cow skin-like material, 20 musks pods-like material, 900 buddhachitta beads, 20-kg rudraksha, and other sharp weapons.
Police also confiscated 35 ATM cards from different Chinese banks. The arrested are in custody, and further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
