Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) has stayed the process of transferring the ownership of a public land (Lalita Niwas) at Baluwatar, Kathmandu back to the government.
A bench of Justice Kumar Chudal has issued an interim order directing the government to halt the process stating that a case is sub-judice at the court. A case on the land grab scam is currently sub-judice at the Special Court. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against 110 individuals on February 5, 2020, alleging them of playing role in transferring the public land in individual ownership.
The order has stated that the government ignored the issue that is currently sub-judice at the court which the bench maintained is not legally correct.
The apex court had issued an order on June 24 while hearing a writ filed by Sarala Gurung, daughter-in-law of Min Bahadur Gurung who is the owner of Bhatbhateni Department Store. It has been revealed that the order was passed only after a letter with the court’s order reached the Land Revenue Office, Dilli Bazaar.
