Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba as Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution. It’s Deuba’s fifth term as a Prime Minister.

Information and Communication Expert to the President, Tika Dhakal, said that the appointment was made by President Bhandari implementing a mandamus order by the Supreme Court. The oath-taking ceremony has been fixed for 6 pm today.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday had issued a mandamus order to the President to appoint Deuba as the Prime Minister within 28 hours and had reinstated the House of Representatives.

Deuba previously served four terms as the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1995 to 1997, 2001 to 2002, 2004 to 2005, and 2017 to 2018. Now, Deuba needs to win a vote of confidence motion in the lower house within 30 days to remain in office.
