Covid-19: Nepal records 4,904 new cases and 35 deaths; positivity rate at 26 percent

Kathmandu: Nepal on Tuesday recorded 4,904 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Active cases have crossed 37,000-mark following a steady increase in new cases for the past few days.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 3,194 were diagnosed with the virus in PCR tests while 1,710 were confirmed positive in the test undertaken through the antigen method. Samples of 13,217 people were tested through the PCR method while 5,906 samples were tested adopting the antigen method. The positivity rate stood at 25.64 percent.

With this, the number of active cases of coronavirus across the country has reached 37,332. Out of them, 33,985 are in home isolation and 3,347 undergoing treatment at institutional isolation. A total of 761 are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit while 176 Covid-19 patients are under ventilator support, the Health Ministry said, adding 381 are currently quarantined.

A total of 2,115 people got discharged during the last 24 hours, the Ministry added. The recovery rate has now decreased to 93.4 percent.

According to the Ministry, 35 people lost their lives to coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. As of today, coronavirus-related deaths have reached 10,150.
