Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday forwarded a writ petition filed demanding to halt a special session of Lumbini Province Assembly to a Constitutional Bench.

A single bench of Justice Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai ordered to send the writ filed against the special session to the Constitutional Bench stating that a constitutional interpretation on the case was necessary.

UML Province Assembly member Leela Giri had moved the apex court demanding the session summoned be stopped arguing the move to summon the session was unconstitutional.

The special session began today even though Lumbini Province Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel resigned ahead of a meeting of Province Assembly slated for today to discuss a no-confidence motion filed against him.
