Kathmandu: The government has decided to rescue Nepalis from Afghanistan. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday morning directed the concerned agencies to evacuate Nepalis at the earliest.
Nepalis in Afghanistan have made a call for immediate rescue after the Taliban took control over the state powers. Many expatriates in Afghanistan have been returning to their home countries or elsewhere since the Taliban insurgents have taken over the Afghani President’s office. Many countries’ governments have been airlifting their citizens at risk in Afghanistan.
Government Spokesperson and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said the meeting directed the concerned government bodies to rescue Nepalis immediately.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the Government of Nepal will provide patronage to all Nepalis in Afghanistan waiting for the rescue. Assuring of necessary coordination with the concerned authorities to make rescue arrangements for all Nepalis, PM Deuba took to his Twitter handle today morning and said that the government has already taken cognizance of the issue.
The meeting also requested Gurkha veterans staging fast-unto-death in London to call off their protest. The government is committed to addressing their demands through diplomatic means, said Minister Karki.
