Nepal registers 3,403 new Covid-19 cases and 42 fatalities in the last 24 hours; Katmandu Valley records 993 fresh cases

Kathmandu: Nepal on Wednesday recorded 3,403 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Active cases have crossed 40,000-mark following a steady increase in new cases for the past few days.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 2,613 were diagnosed with the virus in PCR tests while 790 were confirmed positive in the test undertaken through the antigen method. Samples of 11,839 people were tested through the PCR method while 4,999 samples were tested adopting the antigen method. The positivity rate stood at 20.20 percent.

With this, the number of active cases of coronavirus across the country has reached 40,338. Out of them, 36,806 are in home isolation and 3,532 undergoing treatment at institutional isolation. A total of 770 are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit while 186 Covid-19 patients are under ventilator support, the Health Ministry said, adding 457 are currently quarantined.

A total of 2,104 people got discharged during the last 24 hours, the Ministry added. The recovery rate has now decreased to 93.1 percent.

According to the Ministry, 42 people lost their lives to coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. As of today, coronavirus-related deaths have reached 10,396.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Valley recorded 993 new cases— 711 in Kathmandu, 160 in Lalitpur and 122 in Bhaktapur.
