Nepal registers 2,525 new Covid-19 cases and 35 fatalities in the last 24 hours; Katmandu Valley records 689 fresh cases

Kathmandu: The country has recorded 2,525 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This was revealed in 14,810 samples including 9,909 through RT-PCR and 4,901 antigen tests carried out in various laboratories across the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

This takes the caseload of Covid-19 infection in the country to 751,001 confirmed through RT-PCR and 80,967 through antigen tests.

Likewise, 2,086 people recovered during the same period, taking the total number of recoveries to 702,183, with the recovery rate standing at 93.5 percent.

Meanwhile, 35 people lost their lives in the past 24 hours, taking the Covid-19 death toll to 10,568. The case fatality rate is 1.5 percent.

The number of active cases in the country is 38,250 with 35,145 of them in home isolation, 3,105 in institutional isolation. Of the infected, 620 are undergoing treatment in ICU while 170 are with ventilator support.

The Kathmandu Valley recorded 689 new cases in the last 24 hours with 518 persons in Kathmandu, 119 in Lalitpur, and 52 in Bhaktapur testing positive.

Meanwhile, a restriction imposed on the movement of private and public vehicles from 8:00 pm in the Kathmandu Valley has been lifted.

A meeting of chief district officers of the three districts in the Kathmandu Valley held today decided to lift the restriction.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Kali Prasad Parajuli, told RSS that the provision imposed on private and public vehicles has been removed. With this decision, public and private vehicles could be operated even after 8:00 pm from today.

Meanwhile, the prohibitory order imposed till September 1 to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic is still in force.
The prohibitory order imposed till August 24 from August 12 had mentioned that all private and public vehicles except essential service, transport vehicles and vehicles entering Kathmandu Valley have to reach their destinations before 8 pm.
