Kathmandu: The CPN-UML has filed a writ petition against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, the Election Commission, and Lumbini Province Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti.

On behalf of UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, Sumitra Pande filed the separate writ petitions at SC on Wednesday. The hearing on the writ is scheduled for Friday.

The UML demanded action against Speaker, arguing that he did not implement the action the party took against 14 lawmakers. It sought the mandamus order.

The UML led by KP Sharma Oli had expelled 14 lawmakers including leader Madhav Kumar Nepal on August 9. Oli argued that the registration of the new party- CPN (Unified Socialist) with the signatures of those expelled lawmakers was wrong and faulty. He also demanded the cancellation of CPN (Unified Socialist).

In the writ petition, Chairperson Oli mentioned that the registration of CPN (Unified Socialist) breached the process. It was illegal also because it used leader Jhalanath Khanal’s signature while he was in New Delhi for treatment.

Similarly, a mandamus order is demanded against Lumbini Province Assembly Speaker for not implementing the party decision to expel two lawmakers.
