Six die as heavy rain lashes Nepal

Kathmandu: Six people have lost their lives in floods, inundation and landslides after heavy rains lashed different parts of the country.

According to the Home Ministry, two people were killed in a landslide in Rolpa today. Gauri Thapa and another five-year-old child were killed in a landslide at the house of Purna Bahadur Thapa in Rolpa Municipality-10. Two others have been injured, National Emergency Operations Center said.

Similarly, the bodies of two persons who were swept away by the flood in Karra River of Hetauda Sub-metropolis of Makawanpur two days ago have been found today. The deceased have been identified as Badri Karki, a truck driver and Ganesh Thapa. They were swept away in the truck.

Meanwhile, Prachanda Khadka, 10, of Nalghat Municipality-5 of Jajarkot has died after being hit by a rock. Two others, Gorakh Bahadur Khadka and Sila Khadka were critically injured.

Similarly, Deuki BK died when a mud house collapsed due to rain in Pyuthan Municipality, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

As many as 385 houses in Kathmandu have been inundated due to heavy rains since last night. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 232 people have been rescued from drowning in Kathmandu. A suspension bridge has also been damaged.

Meanwhile, 54 people have been rescued from Bhaktapur and 15 from Lalitpur. Since the onset of monsoon across the country, 129 people have died in floods, landslides and inundation. Another 44 people are missing.
