Former NSC Member-Secretary Rana passes away

Kathmandu: Former Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) and former Ambassador Rukma Shumsher Rana has passed away. According to family sources, he died last night at the age of 85 at his residence in Battisputali, Kathmandu. He was suffering from a kidney ailment, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Rana had twice served as NSC member secretary between 2050 to 2055 BS. Rana also became the chairperson of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) in 2059 BS. The NOC had recently appointed Rana as the honorary chair.

He served as the acting president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and the president of the Nepal Taekwondo Association and the Nepal Athletics Association. Rana, the youngest son of Nepali Congress founder Subarna Shamsher Rana, was also Nepal’s ambassador to India from 2009 to 2011 during the Congress-led government.

Rana was also a partner and managing director of Dabur Nepal, an Indian joint venture. According to family sources, he will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat later today.
