Kathmandu: An all-party meeting summoned by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has decided to call on the main opposition CPN-UML to lift House obstruction. The meeting was, however, not attended by the UML leaders.
Minister for Law and Government Spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the Prime Minister called on the opposition not to obstruct the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
Government Spokesperson Karki said that no agreement was reached regarding the House deadlock as UML was not present. UML leaders did not attend the meeting as leaders from CPN (Unified Socialist), a breakaway faction of the party, were also called for the meeting.
“UML leader snubbed the meeting called by Speaker. They didn’t attend today’s meeting as well. They seem to be skipping talks and dialogues on resuming the House,” said Minister Karki.
It may be noted that the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has been obstructing the parliamentary meeting since the beginning of the current House session. The party had earlier boycotted a similar meeting called by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota intended to end the House obstruction.
All parties representing the Parliament and former prime ministers were invited to the meeting.
