Salyan bus accident update: Death toll reaches 12

Despite frequent road accidents during the festival season, the authorities concerned have failed to come up with a concrete plan to prevent incidents

Kathmandu: The death toll in the road accident in Salyan district on Sunday afternoon has reached 12.

According to the Salyan District Police Office, out of 12 deceased passengers, 10 are male and the remaining are female.

“The identity of 10 passengers has already been ascertained,” according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Gobinda Thapa.

The deceased have been identified as Mina Dangi, 61, a resident of Sarda Municipality-2, Salyan district, Lila Budhathoki, 66, of Sarda-2, Sabitra KC, of Santinagar Rural Municipality-8, Suraj Oli, 5, of Santinagar-6.

Likewise, Mina Shahi, 24, of Tribeni Rural Municipality-1, Salyan, Tilak Oli, 29, of Salyan, Prabha Chalaune, 53, of Tulsipur-6, Duli Reule, 60, of Babai Rural Municipality-4, Dang, Kalawati Budhathoki, 70, of Babai-6, and Indra Adhikari, 65, of Ghorahi, are also among the dead.

On Sunday afternoon, a passenger bus (Na 2 Kha 2552) met with an accident at Kuparkot in Salyan.

The bus en route to Tulsipur from Salyan skidded off the road and plunged some 200 meters into a rivulet.
