Kathmandu: Province 1 Chief Minister Rajendra Rai secured a vote of confidence in voting held in the provincial assembly on Wednesday. A total of 50 votes were cast in support of the trust motion and 29 against the motion.

Lawmakers from the ruling coalition—Nepali Congress, UCPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party—voted for Rai while the lawmakers from the main opposition CPN-UML voted against the confidence motion.

CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rai was appointed Chief Minister of the province on November 12. He needed to get the confidence of the Province Assembly within 30 days as per the constitutional provision. https://www.tronweekly.com/

Rai was elected province assembly member from Bhojpur. He had switched to CPN (Unified Socialist) from CPN-UML after the party was officially registered at the Election Commission. The new party was formed under the leadership of former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, after a breakaway from the CPN-UML.
