Kathmandu: Out of the total 60 political parties from foreign countries invited to attend CPN-UML’s 10th National Congress, eight are sending their representatives to participate in the program, said CPN-UML on Thursday.

Those sending their representatives include India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Communist Party of India-Marxist, Cambodian People’s Party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna among others.

Delegates representing various foreign political parties are arriving to participate in the National Congress that is being held in Chitwan from Friday, informed Rajan Bhattarai, central committee member of UML.

“Those who have not been able to attend the program physically have sent the messages of congratulations.”  Those sending congratulatory notes include Workers Party of Belgium, Communist Party of Greece, German Social Democrat Party and All Russian Political Party, among others.  They have not been able to come to Nepal due to travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19, said Bhattarai.

There will be no representation from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) which has been sending its delegates to take part in nearly all the past conventions of CPN-UML. “It is again due to the Covid-19. But CCP has sent the video messages which will be played out during the inauguration session of the program,” Bhattarai said.

UML chairman K P Oli is scheduled to have a breakfast meeting with the visiting delegates of the foreign political parties in Chitwan on November 28. CPN-UML is holding its 10th National Congress in Chitwan from November 26-28 which is electing new leadership and office bearers for the next five years’ term.
