Karnali Province Chief Minister Shahi secures vote of confidence

Kathmandu: Karnali Province Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi secured a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Wednesday. A trust motion tabled by the Chief Minister received 22 votes.

Lawmakers from Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party voted in favor of the confidence motion. Karnali Province assembly has 35 members. Lawmakers from the main opposition CPN-UML abstained themselves.

Shahi was appointed the Chief Minister on November 2. He needed to get the confidence of the Province Assembly within 30 days of appointment to remain in office as per the constitutional provision.
