Kathmandu: “Sita—A Tale of Ancient Love,” a mythical novel about the life of Goddess Sita, was launched virtually on Friday. The novel is penned by Bhanumati Narasimhan, a meditation guru and chair of the International Women’s Conference. The launch event also saw a musical show.
The event, hosted by The Art of Living, was presided by Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, Nepal’s first lady, as chief guest.
“The book seizes the readers to its narrative as its breezy back and forth swings to Sita’s life through her own memories while she is sheltered at the Ashoka Vatika garden at Lanka, after she is abducted by the Lanka King Ravana,” reads a press note released by organizers.
“Based on a variety of sources including published material, stories from religious texts and from tales passed on since generations, the book reflects the understanding of such stories by the author presented in simplified form.”
The book also features some 16 illustrative-paintings by Pratibha Kumari.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Rana Deuba said, “As a woman activist, I used to question Sita’s quiet and timid personality. But as I grew older, I started admiring her forbearance. She displayed strength in every challenge that was thrown to her.”
She added, “Even somebody as powerful, wealthy, mighty and intelligent as Ravana could not bear down her fortitude, forbearance and strength.”
