NC General Convention: Six leaders file candidacies for President

Kathmandu: Leaders have filed their candidacies for the new leadership of the Nepal Congress (NC) through the 14th General Convention of the party underway in Kathmandu.

A total of six candidates have registered their nominations for the post of President, six for Vice-Presidents, five for General Secretaries and 19 for Joint General Secretaries.

Sher Bahadur Deuba, Shekhar Koirala, Prakashman Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi, Kalyan Gurung and Yubaraj Neupane have registered their candidacies for President.

Similarly, Mahesh Acharya, Sujata Koirala, Chandra Bhandari, Dhanraj Gurung, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Bijya Gachhadar have registered for the post of Vice-President.

Similarly, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, Minendra Rijal, Gagan Kumar Thapa, Prakash Sharan Mahat and Pradeep Poudel have filed their candidacies for the post of General Secretary.

Badri Prasad Pandey, Farmullah Mansoor, Man Bahadur Bishwakarma, Devraj Chalise, Surendra Prasad Chaudhary, Kishore Singh Rathore, Ranjit Karna, Jeevan Pariyar, Bikash Lama, Ram Krishna Yadav, Kamala Pant, Tejulal Chaudhary, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, Ganga Sunar, Mahendra Yadav, Bhishmaraj Aangdambe, Chetlal Bajal, Sheikh Wakil and Umakanta Chaudhary are in the race for Joint General Secretary.

A total of 110 nominations have been filed for central members under open category.

The party will select a Central Committee with 134 office bearers. The election will be held for one president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries, and eight joint general secretaries.

Similarly, there will be 35 open central members, nine women, 21 from including three each from the seven provinces, nine from Dalit, 15 from Adivasi Janajati, 15 from Khas Arya, nine from Madhesi, four from Dalit, three from Muslim group, one from the backward area, one from minority and one member from people with disability. The treasurer is nominated by the chairperson from among the elected central members.
