Kathmandu: The Communist Party of Nepal (UML), the main opposition party, has decided not to take part in the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The ruling party called for the meeting to discuss various political issues, including the parliament obstruction and the MCC Compact. However, the CPN-UML has decided to boycott the meeting, saying the party would not participate in any meetings participated by the CPN (Unified Socialist), led by Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The meeting is scheduled for 4 PM at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.
According to Bishnu Rijal, deputy chief of UML’s publicity department, the main opposition would not participate in the meeting, terming Madhav Kumar Nepal’s party illegitimate.
The CPN (UML), in the past too, has boycotted all-party meetings called to discuss parliament obstruction, among other issues.
The main opposition party has been obstructing the parliament for the past few months, demanding that 14 lawmakers now belonging to CPN (Unified Socialist) should be relieved from their positions.
After splitting with the CPN (UML), Madhav Nepal formed the CPN (Unified Socialist) which the Election Commission authenticated on August 25. A total of 14 lawmakers from CPN-UML defected to CPN(Unified Socialist).
UML chair KP Oli and leaders close to him have been questioning the legitimacy of Madhav Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist).
