Nepal reports one more Omicron variant case

Kathmandu: Nepal has reported one more case of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the variant was confirmed when gene sequencing was performed on a sample of a 98-year-old man.

Speaking at a press meet on Wednesday, Health Ministry Spokesperson Dr Sangeeta Mishra said that the man is currently under home isolation and contact tracing is being performed.

Earlier on December 6, Nepal had reported the first two cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

The Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) was first detected in African countries and has been so far found in more than 80 countries. The World Health Organization has announcedthe new variant as the ‘universal variant of concern’.
