Kathmandu: A total of six board members of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) have urged the cricket governing body to roll back its action against four national cricketers.

Organizing a press meet in the Capital on Wednesday, CAN board members—Amit Bir Pandey, Rishi Ram Gautam, Mohammad Dawood Ansari, Karan Mahatara, Sanjay Raj Singh and Chhumbi Lama—demanded the CAN withdraws its action.

Last Thursday, CAN had decided to take action against four national team players, including Captain Gyanendra Malla. The CAN had decided to strip skipper Malla and Vice-Captain Dipendra Airee from their duties. Likewise, along with the duo, Sompal Kami and Kamal Singh Airee would not be offered central contracts for the first six months of 2022

Speaking in the press meet, CAN board member Rishi Ram Gautam said, “The action against the four players was done without a proper consultation with the board members.” He added that the action was pre-planned.

They have also questioned financial transparency in the national cricket governing body.

“The procurement process for cricketing materials for province and district associations is questionable. A huge sum of money has been spent without consulting with the board,” reads a press release issued at the press meet. “It is against the prevailing act on procurement”
