Govt procuring 8.4 million Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines to immunize kids

Kathmandu: The government is preparing to inoculate children aged 5-11 with Covid-19 vaccines.

Director at Management Division under the Department of Health Services Dr Rudra Marasini said that the process for purchasing Pfizer vaccine for children in the age group of 5 to 12 years has been started.

According to Dr Marasini, a proposal has been sent for the procurement of 8.4 million doses of vaccine. He said that the vaccines will be administered to 4.2 million kids in two doses.

“The new vaccines by Pfizer can be administered to kids aged over five,” said Dr Marasini. “We will start the vaccination drive once we received the consignment.”

The government had administered Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to schoolchildren in the 12-18 age group.
