Prohibitory order imposed in Sarlahi as clashes erupt

Kathmandu: The District Administration Office Sarlahi has issued a prohibitory order to bring under control the conflict in the Bayalbas area of Ishwarpur Municipality-6.

The order is enforced in wards 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 of the municipality and remains cordoned off, said Chief District Officer of Sarlahi Thaneshwor Gautam.

The prohibitory order came into effect from 3 pm today and will remain in place until 7 pm on Wednesday. The order was enforced to control the adverse situation that after the dispute escalated since a local was killed in a road accident on Sunday evening.

Local resident Ram Kumar Mahato was killed in a road accident that took place at around 9 pm on Sunday.

Mahato, who was riding a motorcycle, collided with a patrolling police van. After the dispute over the issue escalated, the then Chief District Officer Baburam Khatiwada was recalled to the Home Ministry and Gautam was sent to Sarlahi as Khatiwada’s replacement.

In course of the protests, the irate locals set a police van on fire while about 15 security personnel were injured in the clashes, according to the District Police Office, Sarlahi.
