Kathmandu: The main opposition party CPN-UML is holding district conventions in 61 districts on Friday.

UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the convention virtually, according to Bishnu Rijal, Deputy Chief of the UML Publicity Department.

Due to disputes in seven districts of Province 2, the convention will not be held today. District conventions in Siraha, Dhanusha, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Bara, Rautahat and Parsa have been suspended.

Likewise, conventions will not be held in Sankhuwasabha, Manang, Mustang, Rukum East, Humla, Mugu, Kalikot and Bajhang due to cold weather. Similarly, the convention has been suspended in Rolpa due to the death of the district secretary on Wednesday.

The UML statute stipulates that district conventions should be held every three years.

UML has issued a circular to motivate delegates for unanimous leadership selection in the convention and to opt for election only in the case of disagreement. They have been instructed to follow the directives from the party’s Central Election Commission regarding the method and procedure of the elections.
