Nepal witnesses sharp increase in coronavirus cases; 2,444 cases recorded in the last 24 hours

Kathmandu: Nepal has recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases with 2,444 fresh cases recorded in the last 24 hours. The country on Monday had recorded 1,446 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths.

The Ministry of Health and Population on Tuesday said that the new cases were detected from 15,033 tests including 10,648 RT-PCR and 4,385 antigen tests. A total of 1,981 cases were identified through PCR and 463 through antigen tests.

The fresh cases have taken the caseload to 835,927 in PCR and 97,967 in antigen.

Likewise, 313 people recovered during the period and Nepal has 9,522 active cases. The recovery rate has now dropped to 97.5 percent.

One death from the pandemic was reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 11,607 as of Tuesday afternoon.
