Covid-19 cases continue to surge; 6,734 test positive in the last 24 hours

Kathmandu: Covid-19 cases have continued to surge at an alarming rate in Nepal with 6,734 fresh cases recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. Nepal had recorded 4,961 cases on Sunday.

The number was confirmed through 17,465 tests during the same period. The positivity rate stood at 38 percent.

A total of 547 people recovered, taking total recoveries to 816,985. The recovery rate has now dropped to 95.1 percent.

Nepal currently has 30,877 active cases. A total of 29,705 are home isolation and 1,172 in institutional isolation. A total of 139 patients have been admitted to Intensive Care Unity and 26 are under ventilator support, the Health Ministry added.

A total of three people succumbed to the pandemic. The death toll stands at 11,623 as of Monday afternoon.
