Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba express grief on demise of legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeskar

Kathmandu: Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeskar died at the age of 92 on Sunday in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was admitted to the intensive care unit on January 8 after testing positive for coronavirus. 

The demise of Mangeskar has saddened the entire music sector.

Mangeskar, who is also a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke awards, has given her voice for some Nepali songs as well. She devoted over 80 years of time in the music sector, and sang more than 50 thousand songs in various languages.

Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has expressed grief at her demise. 

“The demise of India’s popular singer, Lata Mangeskar, who has sung many Nepali songs in her beautiful voice has saddened me,” Prez Bhandari writes in her Twitter account. “I express heartfelt condolences to the late Lata Mangeshkar, who had extraordinary talent.”

Prime Minister Deuba also expressed condolences at the songstress’s demise.

“The demise of Indian singer Lata Mangeskar, who has given her voice in numerous popular songs, has saddened me,” he tweeted.

“I express my heartfelt condolences to her and sympathy to the family.” 
According to Indian media, a funeral with state honours will be held Sunday evening.
