Kathmandu: A meeting of the House of Representatives has been slated for 1 pm at the Federal Parliament building on Friday.
The tabling of the much-debated Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact has not been included in today’s Parliament business as well. As per the tentative business of the House, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will be submitting a report of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission for the Fiscal Year 2020/21.
A meeting of the House Business Advisory Committee slated today before the Parliament meeting will finalize the agenda for the meeting. Before that, top leaders of the ruling alliance are making another bid to hammer out a consensus on MCC.
A meeting of the ruling coalition leaders held on Thursday evening failed to reach an agreement on various issues including tabling the MCC agreement and smooth running of the parliament meeting. As a result, the leaders are scheduled to meet again on Friday morning.
At the meeting held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar, in-depth discussion on conducting the meeting of the House of Representatives without any hindrance and tabling the MCC agreement were discussed, said government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki. “As the discussions between the ruling parties are continuing, today’s meeting ended with a decision to resume at 10 am today,” said Minister Karki.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba requested the leaders to fulfill the request made by the MCC head office for ratification of the agreement by February 28, said Minister Karki.
Though the government-led Nepali Congress was preparing to table the agreement in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, it was postponed till Friday at the request of CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
