Kathmandu: A meeting of the ruling coalition held on Friday morning failed to reach an agreement on various issues including tabling the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.
The leaders agreed to meet again on Sunday morning.
At the meeting held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar, a discussion on conducting the meeting of the House of Representatives without any hindrance and tabling the MCC agreement was discussed but no consensus was forged.
During the meeting, the CPN (Maoist Center) proposed to postpone the tabling of the MCC for a few days. CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ requested Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to wait till a Standing Committee meeting of the party is held.
The Prime Minister then requested Prachanda to agree on tabling the compact today and hold a further discussion. “Let’s table it in the Parliament today and discuss in detail,” he proposed.
The meeting ended after Prachanda said the issue need to be discussed at the party at first.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the House of Representatives has been slated for 1 pm at the Federal Parliament building on Friday.
The tabling of the much-debated Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact has not been included in today’s Parliament business as well. As per the tentative business of the House, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will be submitting a report of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission for the Fiscal Year 2020/21.
The main opposition party CPN-UML has said it will obstruct the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday as well.
Party’s Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai said the party will not also attend a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee summoned by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota for today.
The main opposition has been continuously obstructing the House meeting demanding 14 lawmakers it took action against should be dismissed.
