Kathmandu: A maneater tiger that killed five people in Banke district in a period of a month has been brought to the Chitwan National Park.
A team of security personnel brought the large cat to CNP on Thursday. It has now been kept in a cage at CNP.
CNP chief conservation officer Haribhadra Acharya said the tiger has been kept in the cage and a veterinarian has been assigned for providing it special care.
“The tiger has been brought to Chitwan as a cage for keeping tiger is in the process of construction in Banke National Park. It will not be immediately released in the jungle. It can be sent to the zoo in the future considering its condition,” Acharya added.
The tiger kept at Kasara will be fed four to six kilos of buffalo meat in a day. Sometimes it will be given the flesh of dead wild animals.
Chief conservation officer Acharya said the daily behavior of the tiger will be observed keeping it in Kasara.
On February 5, the tiger had attacked and devoured a woman who had gone to collect fodder for cattle in the community forest at Rapti Sonari rural municipality in Banke district. It killed another woman from the same locality two days after this incident.
An Indian man was killed in the buffer zone area of the Banke National Park before these two incidents happened.
Another local woman was injured in an attack by a tiger sometime back. A person was killed by the tiger in the third week of February while a man was mauled by it a few days after.
The Division Forest Office Banke had taken the tiger under control on Wednesday and it was brought to Chitwan the next day. RSS
