Kathmandu: The ruling coalition has formed a committee to monitor the electoral alliance for the local polls slated for May 13.

A meeting of top leaders representing the alliance held on Tuesday morning formed a local election electoral alliance monitoring committee led by Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel.

Leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhala Nath Khanal said that a mechanism has been set up to look into the coordination process as the formation of an electoral alliance has already started at the municipal level.

The committee will have two leaders from each from the five parties. The names of other leaders in the mechanism will be recommended by the parties.

He said, “Coordination is happening at the local level. This mechanism will monitor it.”

A meeting of the ruling alliance held on March 31 had decided to contest the local polls by forming an electoral alliance. The leaders had agreed to let central leadership decide on the electoral alliance in the metropolis and the local committee for other municipalities.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had briefed the meeting about his three-day India visit. The meeting also drew the conclusion that PM Deuba’s India visit was successful.

Similarly, the meeting decided to hold an interaction with political parties, economists and stakeholders by the government, paying attention to the country’s economic condition.
