Kathmandu: Waste management of all 18 local levels in the Kathmandu Valley has been affected yet again as the Sisdole landfill site in Nuwakot district was fully occupied with garbage. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City said waste management on Sunday and Monday was affected in the valley since the workers were working to manage space for more garbage in the Sisdole landfill site.

Chief of Environment Department in KMC Sarita Rai said the waste from the valley would be collected from Tuesday morning if the job of waste adjustment was completed by Monday evening.
The waste from the Kathmandu Valley is managed in Sisdole for the past 15 years though the site was readied just for two years.

The KMC officials said sustainable waste management has become more challenging as the under-construction landfill site at Banchare Danda was not completed in the stipulated timeframe. As much as 1,200 metric tonnes of waste is being managed at Sisdole landfill site every day.

It may be noted that the waste from the Kathmandu Valley was collected on Saturday only after 14 days of disruption from the local residents along the Pasang Lhyamu Highway.
