Nepali Congress emerges victorious in local polls in Gurbhakot, Lekbesi of Surkhet

Surkhet: Nepali Congress candidates have been re-elected the mayor and deputy mayor of Gurbhakot Municipality in Surkhet district in the local-level elections held on May 13.

Hasta Pun won the mayor post for a second term by securing 11, 978 votes. His closest contender Tilak Khatri of the CPN-UML polled 10,186 votes.

Similarly, Nepali Congress’ Maina BK has been re-elected as the deputy mayor of the municipality. She secured 11,743 votes against the 10,299 votes polled by her nearest competitor Sushila Bishwokarnma of the CPN-UML.

Likewise, Umesh Kumar Poudel of the Nepali Congress has been elected the mayor of Lekbesi Municipality in Surkhet district. Poudel defeated Dev Bahadur Rana of the CPN-UML by a margin of 265 votes. Poudel secured 6,639 votes while Rana got 6,374.

CPN-UML’s candidate Bimala Khadluk has been elected to the post of deputy mayor by securing 6,109 votes. Her nearest rival Deukali Thapa Magar of CPN (Unified Socialist) garnered 5,440 votes.
The Nepali Congress and the CPN (Unified Socialist) had entered an electoral alliance for the post of mayor and deputy mayor in Lekbesi Municipality.
