Youths protest demanding justice for rape victims

The revelation of horrifying series of incidents by alleged rape victim has sparked a debate in Nepal with many arguing that the statute of limitations for rape and sexual violence must be removed.

Kathmandu: Youths on Friday protested outside the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar demanding justice for rape victims.

They demanded that the perpetrators of rape be punished, a time limit on filing complaints about rape and other sexual violence be removed, and that cases related to rape and sexual violence be heard on a fast track among others.

Demonstrators carried placards bearing different slogans such as ‘Hold perpetrators accountable, ‘Remove statute of limitations for rape and sexual violence’, ‘Take action against the guilty’, ‘provide support to survivors’ and ‘Enable fast track courts for rape and sexual violence’ among others.
