Vote counting underway in five metropolitan cities, ruling alliance leading in all except Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The vote counting of the local-level elections is underway in five metropolitan cities on Saturday afternoon.

As per the latest update, the ruling alliance candidates have maintained a lead in metropolises except for Kathmandu. The vote counting has been completed in Biratnagar. Nagesh Koirala of the Nepali Congress secured a win for a mayoral post in Biratnagar garnering 30,170 votes. His closest rival Sagar Kumar Thapa of UML received 21,455 votes.

Independent candidate Balen Shah is leading in the mayoral race in Kathmandu, Renu Dahal of CPN (Maoist Center) in Bharatpur, Chiribabu Maharjan of Nepali Congress in Lalitpur, Dhanraj Acharya of CPN (Unified Socialist) in Pokhara and Rajeshman Singh of Janata Samajwadi Party in Birgunj.
