Kathmandu: The main opposition party CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have registered a public importance motion demanding the Parliament discuss the price hike of petroleum products.

The motion has proposed by UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai and seconded by UML’s Yagyaraj Sunuwar and Ganesh Pahadi and Rajendra Lingden of RPP.

The lawmakers have argued the issue should be discussed in the Parliament as it has impacted the daily lives of the people. They have demanded the recent price hike should be rolled back arguing that the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) adjusted the fuel price twice within a week going against a provision to adjust petroleum prices fortnightly.

The state-owned monopolist on Sunday hiked the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, aviation fuel, and cooking gas. The NOC increased the prices of petrol, diesel kerosene, and aviation fuel (domestic) by Rs 10 per liter. Likewise, the price of cooking gas was increased by Rs 200 per cylinder. With the new price list, petrol costs Rs 180 per liter and Rs 163 per liter for diesel and kerosene while Rs 166 per liter for domestic aviation fuel.

The NOC on May 14 had increased the prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene by Rs 10 per liter.
