Kathmandu: Nepalgunj in Banke has remained tense on Thursday after locals clashed with police personnel over a dispute about installing a bust of former King Birendra Shah.

The clash erupted at Dhamboji Chowk in Nepalgunj.

Police fired in the air and lobbed tear gas canisters to take the situation under control, said Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party was preparing to install the bust of the late King to mark the Royal massacre that saw the death of 10 people including the King and the Queen.
