British Gurkhas Ex-Servicemen’s Association announces second round of protest

Kathmandu: British Gurkhas Ex-Servicemen’s Association has announced second round of protest saying that the government has not addressed the demands of former Gurkha soldiers who served in the British Army.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, the association said it will launch a fresh protest in Kathmandu from June 17.

Chief of British Gurkhas Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Singapore Pal Bahadur Gharti said they will stage an hour-long sit-in outside British Embassy in Kathmandu and at Shanti Vatika.

Gharti said that they would re-submit a memorandum with a 16-point demand of the British-Gurkha ex-servicemen to the British Prime Minister through the embassy.

He warned of launching a nationwide protest with the participation of international organizations on human rights and caste discrimination if the Nepali government doesn’t take initiatives to get their demands addressed.

Different organizations associated with Gurkha community have been protesting putting forth different demands including equal pensions on par with their British counterparts.
