Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued an interim order against a decision of Pokhara Metropolitan City to reduce the space to be left vacant around the lake from 65 meters to 30 meters.

A meeting chaired by the then Mayor Man Bahadur GC had fixed the standard for the lake at 30 meters based on the Supreme Court’s order, the report by Few Lake Demarcation and Mapping Committee and the study report of seven lakes.

According to the new rule, no physical structures were allowed within 30 meters of the shore.

Responding to the writ petition, a bench of Justices Ishwar Khatiwada and Til Prasad Shrestha ruled that the decision was not made in accordance with laws.
