Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary and former Health Minister Gagan Thapa on Monday said that Finance Minister Janardan Sharma should step down from his post.
Responding to media queries following a meeting of the House of Representatives, Thapa demanded the resignation of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma. “Finance Minister Sharma should resign as questions are raised against him inside and outside the parliament.”
“Finance Minister should resign or else the Prime Minister should sack him and initiate investigation process”
If the finance minister does not resign, the prime minister should remove him, and immediately initiate the process of investigation, he told the journalists.
Stating that it would be a wrong precedent if the matter is not investigated, Thapa said that the Finance Minister should be held accountable as questions are raised against him.
Our working procedure and laws clearly mandated us to keep record of the CCTV footage safe for at least three months, he said. “The alteration of tax rate in the budget draft is not a small issue. This is not just a minor human error. We should not let the issue go without proper investigation. If we do so, it will set a wrong precedent.”
“The Finance Ministry has said that the CCTV footage is only stored in the storage for 13 days, so the Prime Minister should take immediate action.”
