Kathmandu: The central working committee meeting of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) concluded Monday with a decision to forge electoral alliance with the ruling parties in the upcoming elections to the federal and province levels.
Issuing a press statement, Chief Secretary of the NC central office Krishna Prasad Poudel said a decision has been made to forge an alliance in the upcoming elections by holding dialogue with the ruling parties meant for orienting the NC to garner majority in the polls to safeguard the constitution and strengthen democracy and address people’s dream for prosperity through a stable government.
The NC meeting has also concluded that the NC should present itself with a clear program in the upcoming polls to bring about qualitative changes in people’s livelihood through a stable government in the next five years. The CWC meeting has stated to build a common minimum viewpoint among the political parties in the alliance on implementation of the constitution, socio-economic transformation and foreign relations.
Likewise, the CWC meeting reviewed the one-year term of the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government and concluded that it performed crucial jobs including management of the COVID-19 vaccines, MCC ratification and local level elections.
Furthermore, the NC has urged the government to prepare a plan of action to address the issues seen in the country’s economy and implement those issues while asking the government to issue a white paper on country’s economy.
The meeting has drawn attention of the government to pay heed to the people’s livelihood by controlling price hike and black marketeering in the essential goods and ending crisis of chemical fertilizers.
Similarly, the meeting also drew the attention of the government to pass the citizenship bill presented in the parliament through the ongoing session of the parliament.
Chief Secretary Poudel stated that the meeting decided to issue a code of conduct for elected representatives of the Congress party at the local level. Party vice-chair and coordinator of the local level election central mobilization committee Purna Bahadur Khadka and coordinator of the local level election central campaign committee Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat presented their respective report, which will be approved by incorporating the suggestions received from the central working committee meeting.
It was also decided to form a ‘Membership Management Central Committee’ under the coordination of party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, a Central Disciplinary Committee under the coordination of Central Member Anand Prasad Dhungana and a Central Audit Committee under the coordination of Central Member Shyam Kumar Ghimire. The meeting has decided to grant recognition to Nepal Democratic Tribes Federation, Nepal Tharu Association and Nepal Democratic Sports Association as new sister organizations of the party.
The meeting decided to give complete shape to party-affiliated sister associations by mid-August. Another 11 new associations have been recognized as the well-wisher organizations of the party.
The meeting has sensitively acknowledged the grave economic crisis facing Sri Lanka. “This meeting appeals to the developed nations and international financial institutions to bring Sri Lanka out of this adverse situation.”
The statement further reads that ‘Nepal, as the chair of the SAARC, appeals to all other member-states to take the lead to for all possible cooperation and coordination to be with Sri Lankan citizens’ pain and suffering.”
Likewise, the meeting condemned the ‘violent’ incident wherein former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was killed, while expressing deep sorrow over his demise.
“We will always remember Abe as a good friend of Nepal”, the statement read. The meeting extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the government of Japan and the people of Japan and also extended tributes to late Abe.
