Kathmandu: The government has banned the production, import, sale, distribution, and use of plastic bags thinner than 40 microns in Kathmandu Valley from Wednesday.

The Ministry of Forest and Environment and the Forest Department have said they are strictly implementing a plastic ban in the Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier, the government had announced banning plastic thinner than 40 microns from April 15, 2015. However, after massive earthquakes hit Nepal, the government failed to properly implement a ban on the use of plastic thinner than 40 microns.

Last year, after the Supreme Court issued an interim order to ban plastic of thinner than 40 microns, the Ministry formed a procedure to implement the decision. However, the government failed to ban plastic in the Kathmandu Valley.
