Kathmandu: It will take 10 more days to manage the garbage piled up in the Kathmandu Valley, according to the secretariat of Mayor Balendra Shah.
The garbage collection was disrupted after the locals from Sisdol and Banchare Danda obstructed the garbage disposal multiple times at the landfill sites.
“If the locals do not obstruct garbage disposal, and the road to reach the landfill site is normal, it will take 10 days to complete the garbage management,” said Sunil Lamsal, member of Mayor Shaha’s secretariat.
Lamsal informed that 8,000 tippers of garbage from 18 local levels of the Kathmandu Valley need to be managed for now.
Earlier, the chief district officers from Kathmandu, Dhading and Nuwakot and locals from Sisdol and Banchare Danda signed a four-point agreement paving the way for garbage disposal.
As per the agreement, the metropolis should not let leachate leak from garbage trucks, and not let garbage litter on the way. Currently, there are only 75 tankers with Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), which do not leak leachate.
