Kathmandu: Parijita Bastola, a Nepali-American teen, has enthralled judges through her voice at The Voice blind auditions.
Bastola,17, from Severna Park, Maryland, sang the song “Jealous” by Labrinth, and turned all four chairs during her performance.
Singing the Labrinth’s song, Bastola received praises from all four judges: John Legend, Camilla Cabello, Gwen Stefan and Blake Shelton. Legend was the first to turn the chair in less than 20 seconds of the performance.
“This is my favorite song that anyone has sung out here”, said singer and coach Camilla Cabello, adding that her singing was “masterful”. Singer, songwriter and a coach at The Voice for six consecutive years, John Legend described her voice as “transcendent”.
Parijita showed her excitement and pride in being the first Nepal-American to audition at The Voice. “I’d definitely like to incorporate Nepali heritage into my singing and my music,” replied Bastola, when asked about the kind of music she wanted to make.
Parijita added that her favorite genre of music was R&B and soul music, and eventually chose Legend as her coach for the competition.
After the Blind Auditions round, the competition will move to the Battles Round where Parijita will have to compete with another contestant to move to the next round.
A singing reality competition, The Voice, is in its 22nd season and airs on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC.
