Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Friday decided to uphold the decision of the Election Commission to scrap the candidacy of Raju Gurung, a common candidate of the ruling alliance of five parties in Rupandehi-2.

The Election Commission, earlier, had decided to scrap Gurung’s candidacy as he was blacklisted for a banking offense. With the decision, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, a candidate of the CPN-UML in the same constituency, gets an upper hand in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

Following the decision of the poll body, Gurung, on October 13, filed a writ petition demanding an interim order against the poll body.

Then on October 16, a single bench of Justice Bishwombar Prasad Shrestha issued an interlocutory interim order to the Election Commission not to scrap the candidacy of Gurung.
