Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued an interlocutory interim order not to charge consumers to watch the Fifa World Cup set to be held in Qatar from November 20.

Hearing on a writ petition filed by Kishor Paudel, a single bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut ordered Media Hub Pvt Ltd not to implement its decision to charge Rs 500 extra to customers to watch the Fifa World Cup. The Court has also called both parties for a discussion on October 12.

As per the National Broadcasting Act, companies can’t charge extra amount from consumers, and only the government has the right to determine the amount, according to Paudel.

Earlier, Media Hub had decided to charge Rs 500 from consumers to watch the Fia World Cup. The company has said that it secured the broadcasting rights for Nepal at Rs 400 million.

The Apex Court has also asked Media Hub to furnish its clarification for such decision within 15 days.
