Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has been elected as a member to the federal parliament from Kathmandu-4.

Thapa, also a general secretary of Nepali Congress, defeated CPN-UML candidate Rajan Bhattarai by a margin of 7,447 votes. 

Thapa has garnered 21,302 votes, while his nearest rival Bhattarai secured 13,855. This is the second time Thapa has defeated Bhattarai in the federal parliament elections.

In the 2017 elections, Thapa secured 21,558 votes, while his closest rival Bhattarai totaled 18,140 votes.
