Six Nepali mayors hold virtual interaction with the mayor of New York City

Kathmandu: Six Nepali mayors from various municipalities of Nepal held a virtual interaction with Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, on Tuesday. Various issues of mutual interests were discussed during the interaction.

Nagesh Koirala, mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Khelraj Pandey, the mayor of Butwal Sub-Metro, Ishwar Narayan Manandhar, mayor of Bhimeshwar Municipality (Dolakha), Basanta Basnet, mayor of Triyuga Municipality (Udayapur), Shiva Shankar Mahato, mayor of Dhangadhi Municipality (Siraha) and Krishna Prasad Koirala, mayor of Sundarbajar Municipality (Lamjung), participated in the interaction with mayor Eric Adams.

Issues related to establishing sister-city relations between Nepali municipalities and New York city and educational and cultural exchanges were discussed, according to the New York-based Nepali community which initiated the interaction program.

During the program, Mayor Adams said the US and New York City have emotional ties with Nepal. “Nepal is the country I like. I visited Nepal in 2015 and I wish to visit again,” he said.

The program was moderated by Somnath Ghimire, the president of the Girija Prasad Koirala Foundation (US chapter).  Ghimire is also the foreign affairs advisor to Nagesh Koirala, the mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City.
